STAR TREK CONVENTION NEWS: Patrick Stewart cancels, DS9 reunion in the works
Creation Entertainment, the company behind the Official Star Trek Convention, has announced several Trek conventions for the remainder of 2012 and 2013. After its recent three-day event in Cherry Hill, N.J., the Trekker bandwagon heads to Nashville, Tenn., but missing from the group of celebrities attending will be Patrick Stewart.
But don’t fret Next Gen fans, there’s plenty of good stuff in Picard’s place.
Because of a film commitment, Stewart had to cancel, according to Creation’s official web site. In his place, there will be another “superstar” guest. Perhaps another captain? William Shatner? Kate Mulgrew? Avery Brooks? Scott Bakula? No matter who is chosen, Creation has already made good on its promise to honor the 25th anniversary of Star Trek: The Next Generation. With Stewart’s cancellation comes word that Marina Sirtis and John de Lancie will stop by the two-day event, which takes place June 9-10 at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel.
Other celebrities expected to attend: Jonathan Frakes, LeVar Burton, George Takei, Nichelle Nichols and Chase Masterson. Click here for more information. Gold tickets (a bargain at this convention) are going quickly, so act soon.
Besides the previously scheduled Star Trek events in Las Vegas (August), San Francisco (Novemeber) and Chicago (2013), Creation will also celebrate the 20th anniversary of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine on May 3-5, 2013, in Cherry Hill, N.J. Expect some great celebrities from one of the most beloved Star Trek series in the franchise.
Both 2012 and 2013 are shaping up to be mighty fine years for Trekkers. And, of course, we can’t forget about the new film.
