RECAP: New York Comic Con Day One

Here’s our thoughts…

• Thursday’s preview was a great kickoff.

• We would have loved more than three hours on the convention floor.

• All things are centered around DC and The New 52. Jim Lee probably commanded the largest line.

• Robert Kirkman and The Walking Dead still rule, and the Image booth is one of the busiest.

• Swag galore! The first hundred or so attendants received gift bags with T-shirts, cards, exclusives, etc. Legendary is giving out free T-shirts, as well. I also nabbed free posters for Elvira’s Movie Macabre, Syfy’s Haven and Being Human.

• Best promotion: Animal Planet’s Finding Bigfoot is giving out free beer! That’s right.

• Hasbro has some great exclusives and they give you these big-ass bags that help out a lot.

• The convention floor this year is switched around. Artist Alley and Autograph Alley are on the opposite side.

• Marvel has a somewhat poor showing. Many convention goers may even overlook its display, because it so heavily promotes the upcoming Avengers film.

• Crowds were a little more numerous than I expected, especially for a night that was intended for VIPs, press, professionals and 4-day pass holders.

• Latest news on tickets: Everything is sold out, except single-day Friday passes.

See you later. I’m on my way to Day Two.
