MARQUEE MATTERS: Christina Ricci joins Bebe Neuwirth for CSC ‘Midsummer’

‘Marquee Matters’ is the new weekly column from Hollywood Soapbox. We’ll cover all the news from Broadway, off-Broadway and the rest of the theatrical world.

VOLUME ONE, ISSUE TWO

• Christina Ricci, best known for her film work and recent Broadway debut in Time Stands Still, will join Bebe Neuwirth for the upcoming production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream at Classic Stage Company in New York City. The show will run from March 28 to May 6. Click here for more information.

Classic Stage has been busy lately. Its acclaimed production of The Cherry Orchard, starring Dianne Wiest and John Turturro, has been extended through Jan. 8. As of this writing, all seats were sold out, but standby tickets may be available. This one is a gem (read our review here).

In between the end of The Cherry Orchard and the beginning of Midsummer, CSC will squeeze in a production of Galileo, starring Oscar winner F. Murray Abraham.

• In the next couple of weeks, expect many Broadway shows to close. January is a difficult month to stay open on the Rialto. Scheduled shutterings: Bonnie and Clyde, Hugh Jackman Back on Broadway (limited engagement), The Mountaintop (limited engagement), Billy Elliot, Private Lives, The Addams Family, An Evening with Patti LuPone and Mandy Patinkin (limited engagement) and Follies (limited engagement).

Of these shows, be sure to catch Billy Elliot, Private Lives, LuPone/Patinkin and Follies. They are must-see productions.

• Legendary actor Jack Klugman (TV’s The Odd Couple) will return to the stage in New Jersey. Catch him in Twelve Angry Men at the George Street Playhouse in New Brunswick. Klugman actually starred in the original film adaptation of the play.

The production runs March 13 to April 8. Click here for more information.

• Some holiday engagements are set to end in the coming days. If you’re in the New York City area, be sure to check out The Nutcracker at the New York City Ballet and The Radio City Christmas Spectacular (read our review here).
