Triple Addiction, a rock band from New Jersey, are gearing up for an impressive year of music. They recently released their new single, “Hard to Say Goodbye,” with another single promised before summer’s end. Both songs will appear on the band’s forthcoming album, American Heartbreak, due out Sept. 20.

Triple Addiction mold together classic rock with southern rock and country vibes. The band consists of Chris Loree on lead vocals and guitar, Jon Loree on drums and vocals, and Brandon Loree on bass and vocals. They are triplet bothers who have been playing together since they were 12. Joining them is Dominic Zamora on guitar and vocals.

Recently Hollywood Soapbox exchanged emails with the band members, who collectively answered as a group. Questions and answers have been slightly edited for style.

What inspired the song ‘Hard to Say Goodbye’?

At the time we were just coming off releasing our self-titled EP. We were sitting around, and Chris had this riff idea for a new song. It was way different and way more melodic than our older stuff. We decided to run with it. The lyrics were an afterthought. We wanted something relatable, a feeling that everyone feels no matter what. We decided to go with loss and how when we lose someone, we want nothing more than one more chance. Whether it’s a death in the family or a breakup, we always have that ‘second chance’ wish. The song evolved into what it is today, and we couldn’t be happier with it. The feedback so far has been great!

What can fans expect on your upcoming LP, American Heartbreak?

American Heartbreak is a very different record. We’ve grown so much as a band and as people. It’s so cliche to say, but it’s the truth. We had to do a lot of soul searching and a lot of ‘what’s the message and style we want to give people.’ American Heartbreak is as real as we are. We wanted to write songs that told the listener who Triple Addiction is. We pulled out any stops and just wrote in the style that felt most natural to us. This album has roots in southern rock, country, hard rock, etc. We want the listener to connect as much as possible and feel what we felt while writing and recording it.

How would you define your sound?

We have a lot of country and southern influence. That definitely plays a part in our sound, but also the ’90s early 2000s hard rock is in there, too. We grew up on 3 Doors Down, Nickelback, Black Stone Cherry, so it’s hard not to want to add those heavier genres in there.

Is there a strong music scene in central New Jersey?

There is a lot of talent in central Jersey! Everyone is very welcoming of every style. We’ve done shows with hardcore bands, pop punk bands, alternative bands, and everyone supports everyone. It’s not like just because we’re this southern rock hybrid, we can’t jam along to an alternative band. It’s very welcoming and constantly thriving.

What’s it like to work together as brothers and friends? Is it always smooth sailing?

It always has its ups and downs. We benefit from the blood relationship while other bands don’t get that experience. We have the luxury of being able to constantly work without having to worry about too many scheduling conflicts. We write from similar experiences, and we all come from a similar mindset, which makes the writing and recording process easier.

There is no beating around the bush either. We tell it like it is to each other, and we aren’t afraid to speak up. We have our share of disagreements, but it’s always out of a place of love. No band experiences smooth sailing, and we do have our share of trying times. But one thing we all agree on is that we wouldn’t want to be making this music with anyone else.
