Hollywood Soapbox’s founder wins two journalism awards
John Soltes, founder and publisher of Hollywood Soapbox, has been awarded two prizes from the New Jersey Society of Professional Journalists. The contest honors the best journalism work in the Garden State.
In the online division, Soltes placed second in the “Profile Writing” category for his piece on the survivor of a tiger shark attack. That story (click here to read) featured the story of Mike Coots, a Hawaii surfer who now takes professional photographs of the sport he loves so much. The feature was published online by Hollywood Soapbox at the time when Coots was featured on Discovery Channel’s famous Shark Week programming.
Soltes also won second place in the online “Review Writing” category for his piece on Alain Cavalier’s Pater. The unusual film, starring Vincent Lindon and Cavalier himself, played New York City as part of the Rendez-vous with French Cinema Festival. Click here to read.
The two wins represent the first time in Hollywood Soapbox’s two-year history that the online publication has been recognized for its editorial work.
