Benshi Ichiro Kataoka set for ‘Passing Fancy’ screening in NYC
New York City’s Film Forum will play host to a unique cinematic experience Monday, Feb. 25 when benshi Ichiro Kataoka offers musical accompaniment to the classic Yasujiro Ozu film Passing Fancy. The 8 p.m. screening costs $12.50 for the general public, or $7 for Film Forum members. Kataoka will be accompanied by pianist Makia Matsumura. The event is sponsored by The Japan Foundation.
Ozu’s masterpiece is part of a larger Film Forum festival that celebrates the films of 1933. Remaining movies in the series include Cavalcade, The Private Life of Henry VIII, 20,000 Years in Sing Sing, Blood Money, Laughter in Hell, She Done Him Wrong, Broadway Thru a Keyhole and Liebelei, among others.
Sci-fi fans can enjoy the original The Invisible Man and Island of Lost Souls in a double feature on Feb. 28. King Kong will also screen with Mystery of the Wax Museum on March 3.
