Barclays Center set to open with Jay-Z, Journey, Justin Bieber

The Barclays Center, Brooklyn’s brand-new sporting and music venue, will have a jam-packed calendar of events in the coming months. Set to open Sept. 28, the arena will play host to some of the top musicians in the business, and several dates are already sold out. If you’re looking for seats in the new building, buy early and don’t be disappointed.

Located at 620 Atlantic Ave., not too far from Metro stops and the swanky neighborhoods of Carroll Gardens and Cobble Hill, the Barclays Center promises to be a New York City fixture, much like Madison Square Garden.

• Jay-Z kicks things off with the opening concert on Sept. 28. He’ll also play Sept. 29 and 30, plus Oct. 1, 3, 4, 5 and 6. As of press time, all tickets were sold out. Resale options may be available.

• Sports fans can catch an unusual matchup in Brooklyn: the New Jersey Devils vs. the New York Islanders on Oct. 2. The Harlem Globetrotters will also stop by for a matinee performance on Oct. 7.

• Barbara Streisand, who doesn’t play too many concerts, will offer two performances, one on Oct. 11 and the other Oct. 13. Rush follows the diva with a concert on Oct. 22. Rounding out the month of October is Sensation (Oct. 26-27), John Legend (Oct. 29), Journey, Pat Benatar, Neil Giraldo and Loverboy (Oct. 30) and The Smashing Pumpkins (Oct. 31 — Halloween, how appropriate for The Smashing Pumpkins).

• The newly christened Brooklyn Nets kick off their home games on Nov. 1, with additional dates available on Nov. 3, 5, 11, 13, 15, 23 and 25.

• Comedian Russell Peters stops by on Nov. 10, while Bieber fever (Justin Bieber) pulls into the Barclays on Nov. 12. The Who check in on Nov. 14, while Bob Dylan and Mark Knopfler play Nov. 21. Juan Luis Guerra and Juanes will appear Nov. 24, and Disney on Ice takes over at the end of November.

• December highlights: Neil Young (Dec. 3), Andrea Bocelli (Dec. 5), Sounds of Reggae (Dec. 12) and Leonard Cohen (Dec. 20). Green Day has also been announced for Jan. 16. Rihanna will play the venue May 4.

And who knows? Maybe the Rolling Stones will stop by before the end of the year. Click here for more information.
